How does AI edit your photos and should you trust the results?

AI photo editing analyzes pixels and patterns to improve brightness, reduce blur, remove distractions, and enhance colors. Most AI edits are subtle and improve what's already in the photo — but some can significantly alter reality, especially AI tools that generate or remove objects. For everyday photos, AI editing is usually reliable and makes them look better.

Your phone's camera uses AI in two ways: real-time AI while taking the photo, and post-processing AI after you've taken it. While taking a photo, AI helps you get a sharp image even in low light. After you take the photo, AI can brighten dark areas, sharpen blurry parts, enhance colors, or remove small distractions. Most of this is legitimate enhancement — making the photo look closer to what you saw with your eyes. However, some AI tools can dramatically alter or generate parts of images, which changes the truth of the photo.
