Mobile data not working after you switched SIM cards

Your phone needs to restart to load the new SIM card's settings. Restart your phone right now. This fixes it for nearly everyone. If data still doesn't work after restart, check Settings to make sure mobile data is enabled.

When you put a new SIM card in your phone, it needs to restart to recognize the card and load the carrier's network settings. Until then, it can make calls but can't connect to mobile data. A restart gets everything working in a couple of minutes.

  • Make sure the new SIM card is fully inserted into the slot and clicks into place
  • Have patience after restarting—it takes about 30 seconds for the phone to fully connect to the network
  • If your SIM is from a different carrier or country, wait for activation (can take 10 minutes to 1 hour)
  • Keep WiFi off while testing data, or turn off WiFi after restarting so you can test mobile data
