Your Android hotspot is connected but the internet is very slow
Your laptop or tablet connecting to the hotspot is too far from your phone. Hotspot WiFi doesn't reach as far as regular WiFi. Move your phone within 10 feet of your phone. If that doesn't help, close apps running in the background on your phone. They steal bandwidth.
Mobile hotspots share your phone's internet signal with other devices over WiFi. The signal gets weaker the farther away you are, and it's slower when you're on a weak 4G or 5G network. Apps running in the background also steal bandwidth. Moving closer to your phone and closing unnecessary apps fixes most speed problems.
- ✓Keep your phone close to your phone using the hotspot—no more than 10 feet away
- ✓Check your phone's signal bars at the top of the screen. You need at least 3 bars for decent hotspot speed
- ✓Keep the path between your phone and the other device clear—no thick walls or metal objects between them
- ✓Make sure no other large files are downloading or apps are syncing on your phone
