Card reader not connecting to the POS system
A card reader loses connection when the Bluetooth or cable gets interrupted. The quickest fix is to restart both devices: turn off the card reader for 10 seconds, then turn it back on while the POS app is open. This forces them to find each other again.
Your card reader talks to the POS system through Bluetooth or a USB cable. When that connection drops, the POS app can't find it anymore and shows it as offline. Restarting the card reader clears any connection hiccup and lets it pair up with your POS system again. If restarting doesn't work, your devices can be out of range or the Bluetooth connection needs to be refreshed in settings.
- ✓Have the card reader and POS device within sight and within reach of each other
- ✓Make sure both devices have adequate battery or are plugged in
- ✓Keep them positioned close together - within 10 feet - for best Bluetooth connection

Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Not restarting the POS app when restarting the card reader. Close and reopen the app to make sure it's ready to reconnect
- Putting the card reader in a bag or drawer instead of on the counter. Bluetooth doesn't reach through thick materials
- Assuming the card reader is broken when it just has a dead battery
