Nintendo Switch won't display on TV or shows black screen

The Switch usually stops outputting to TV when the HDMI cable is loose, damaged, the wrong HDMI mode is selected, or the dock isn't fully powered. Reseating the cable, checking the dock connection, and resetting the TV input fixes most cases.

When your Switch won't display on the TV, the HDMI connection has been lost or the dock isn't communicating properly with your TV. We'll check the cable, make sure the dock is fully powered and connected, test different TV inputs, and reset the Switch output if needed.
