Your console shows NAT Type Strict and you can't join online games
NAT Type Strict means your router has strict security settings that block online game connections. The fix is to change your console's network settings to use UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) if available, or move your console higher in your router's priority list. If that doesn't work, you'll need to allow port forwarding.
NAT is your router's security system. When it's set to Strict, it blocks the connections your console needs for online games. Enabling UPnP on your console tells your router to allow these connections automatically. If UPnP doesn't work, you can manually tell your router to let gaming traffic through.

Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Enabling UPnP on only the console or only the router. Sometimes you need both enabled
- Not restarting the console after changing settings. The console needs to reboot to apply changes
- Thinking NAT Type Moderate is the same as Open. Moderate is acceptable but Open is ideal for gaming
Signs you need professional help
- If you've enabled UPnP on both your console and router and restarted both devices but NAT is still Strict, contact us with your console model and router brand — we can walk you through port forwarding.
