NAT type strict, can't join online multiplayer games
Your router is not properly forwarding your game traffic, making your connection strict. This is fixable by opening a port on your router or enabling UPnP. Try UPnP first since it is automatic, and if that does not work we will open a port manually.
NAT type is how your router handles traffic from the internet to your console. Strict NAT means your router is blocking or limiting that traffic. This is a router setting that can be fixed without calling your internet provider. We will try turning on UPnP on your router first, which tells it to automatically open the right ports for gaming. If that does not work, we will manually open a port.
- ✓Know your router brand and model so you can find the settings page
- ✓Know your console model — PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo
- ✓Have an Ethernet cable available if your router is within reach
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step, just tap, no typing needed.
Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Enabling UPnP but not restarting the console afterward. The console needs to re-detect the open ports
- Port forwarding to the wrong IP address. Make sure you are forwarding to your console's current local IP address
Signs you need professional help
- If you've enabled UPnP and restarted your router and console but NAT is still Strict, or if you've manually port forwarded but it still doesn't work, contact us — there will be a double-NAT situation or router compatibility issue.
