macOS update stuck installing or won't complete

A stuck macOS update needs a restart. If the progress hasn't moved in over 2 hours, restart your Mac to retry the update.

macOS updates get stuck when internet drops, storage fills, or the download corrupts. If the update has been Installing for over 2 hours without moving, it's likely stuck. Restarting your Mac retries it. For downloaded but not yet installed updates, delete the partial file and start fresh.
