macOS update stuck downloading or installing
A stuck download is fixed by deleting the partial file and restarting. A stuck installation screen needs at least 2 hours of patience before interrupting.
Stuck downloads come from dropped internet or corrupted files. Stuck installations look frozen but are still running. During installation, a frozen progress bar for 1–2 hours is normal. Only interrupt after confirming it's truly stuck.
