Internet works on WiFi but not through a network cable

One port on your router is broken. Try plugging the cable into a different port on the back of the router. If that works, the first port failed.

Your WiFi works because it uses a different part of the router than the network ports, so a broken port won't affect WiFi. If one or all of the wired ports stop working, it's either a failed port, a faulty cable, or the router needs restarting. You'll fix this in minutes by trying different ports and cables.

⚡ Before you start
  • Make sure the cable is fully plugged in on both ends. Push it in firmly until it clicks
  • Look at the port lights. If there's no light at all, the port is probably dead
  • Try plugging the cable into a different port on the router. Pick one you've never used before
  • Use a different device to determine whether that port is broken or just your computer. This tells you if the port or your computer is the problem
