Your WiFi is slow because your neighbors' networks are interfering
Neighboring WiFi networks on the same channel cause congestion and slowdowns. Use a WiFi analyzer app to find the least crowded channel. Switching to a less crowded channel fixes this in most cases. If you have a 5GHz band available, switch to it for even better results.
Multiple WiFi networks operating on the same channels in your area create interference and congestion. The 2.4GHz band has only 3 non-overlapping channels, so in populated areas, many networks compete on the same channels. This slows everyone down. The fix is to switch to a less congested channel or use the 5GHz band which has many more channels available.
- ✓Run a speed test during off-peak hours (late night) and peak hours (evening). If faster at night, congestion is the cause
- ✓Use a WiFi analyzer app to scan channels. If your channel shows 5+ neighboring networks, that's the problem
- ✓Try connecting to a 5GHz network if available. If speeds improve, 2.4GHz congestion is confirmed

Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Selecting channels 2-5 or 7-10 thinking they're non-overlapping. Only 1, 6, and 11 don't overlap
- Disabling 2.4GHz entirely before ensuring all devices support 5GHz. Breaks older device compatibility
Signs you need professional help
- If all channels show equally congested with many neighboring networks, upgrading to a 5GHz-capable router is the best solution. If speeds don't improve after channel optimization, the ISP speed limit could be the real bottleneck — give us a call and we'll check.
