Your guest WiFi network is much slower than the main one

Your router is limiting guest WiFi speed on purpose. It's designed to stop guests from hogging your connection. Log into your router settings and turn off the speed limit, or set it to a value that lets guests browse normally.

Routers have a built-in feature that restricts guest WiFi speed to protect your main network from being slowed down by visitors. This works well if guests only need email and messages, but if anyone is streaming or working from home, they'll notice it straight away. The fix is to either turn off the limit entirely or raise it to something reasonable. It depends on what you want guests to do on your network.

  • Have a speed test app ready to measure the guest network speed
  • Have access to the main WiFi network so you can run tests on both networks to compare
