Router lights are on but there's no internet

The router has power but can't reach the internet. The ethernet cable connecting the modem to the router is loose, or the modem itself has lost its connection. Start by checking the cable is plugged in firmly on both ends.

Your router can broadcast WiFi just fine, but it's not getting the actual internet signal from your modem. This means the physical connection between them is broken, or your modem has lost its connection to your ISP. The lights will tell you what's wrong.

⚡ Before you start
  • Make sure the ethernet cable that connects the modem to the router is plugged in on both ends
  • Look at the router's internet light. It should be green or white, not red or orange
  • Confirm that the modem has internet. Look at whether its lights show a good connection
  • Try unplugging the ethernet cable and plugging it back in firmly
