Port forwarding not working on router. Can't access game server or camera

Port forwarding fails most in many cases because the rule isn't pointing to the right internal IP address, the service isn't running on that device, or the router is blocking the port. We'll check three things: the internal IP is correct and static, the port rule is enabled, and the service is actually listening on that port.

Port forwarding tells your router 'when traffic arrives on port X from the internet, send it to device Y on the home network'. It fails when your device's IP address changes, when you point it to the wrong address, when the service isn't running, or when the router's firewall is still blocking it. We'll check each piece.

⚡ Before you start
  • Make sure your device you're forwarding to is powered on and connected to the network
  • Confirm the service is actually running on that device (game server, camera app, or similar)
  • Check that you're using the correct external port number when you try to connect
  • Use an online port checker to determine whether your router is actually listening on that port
