WiFi signal is weak in one specific room of your house
WiFi has a limited range and walls block the signal. Your router is probably too far away or there are too many walls between it and that room. Move the router to a more central location in your house, or add a WiFi booster (called a mesh network or extender) in the weak room.
WiFi signal gets weaker the further you get from your router, and walls block it even more. If one room consistently has poor signal while others don't, the router is probably tucked away in a corner instead of a central spot. Moving it to the middle of your house lets the signal spread evenly. If moving isn't possible, a WiFi booster in the weak room bridges the gap.
- ✓Have your phone ready to test WiFi signal strength in different rooms
- ✓Know the current location of your router — whether it's in a closet, corner, central spot, or behind furniture
- ✓Keep a WiFi-enabled device with you to test signal changes as you work through the steps
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step, just tap, no typing needed.
Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Putting the router on the ground or in a corner because it looks neater. Placement matters more than appearance
- Placing a booster right next to the router instead of halfway to the weak room. This doesn't extend coverage
- Hiding the router in a cabinet to hide wires instead of prioritizing signal. A visible router works better
Signs you need professional help
- You've moved the router to a central spot and tried a booster, but the weak room still has poor signal. Multiple rooms have weak signal, not just one — this can indicate a different problem. The signal was fine before and suddenly got weak — there's interference or hardware problem.
