5GHz WiFi network not showing up in available networks

The 5GHz band is turned off or hidden in your router settings. Enabling it or unhiding it in the router menu brings it back to your device's WiFi list — this takes 2–3 minutes.

Dual-band routers broadcast two WiFi networks at once: 2.4GHz (longer range, slower) and 5GHz (shorter range, faster). When 5GHz isn't showing, it's either disabled in the router settings or set to broadcast hidden. We'll check the router's WiFi settings and turn it back on or unhide it.

⚡ Before you start
  • Have your router's admin login information (IP address or admin username) — this is often on a sticker on the router
  • Use a computer or phone connected to the router (either on 2.4GHz WiFi or plugged in with ethernet) so you can access the router settings
  • Make sure your router power is on and has been running for at least 2 minutes
