Your smart plug won't turn off when you tell it to

Your smart plug has a child lock or safety feature turned on that's blocking remote off commands. Go to the app settings for the plug and turn off child lock, parental controls, or any setting that says 'prevent remote off' or 'physical button only'.

Smart plugs have a safety feature called child lock that blocks remote commands. When it's on, you can turn the plug on via the app but not off -- you must use the physical button on the plug itself. This keeps kids from turning expensive equipment off remotely. The fix is simple: go to the plug's settings in the app and turn off child lock.

  • Can you turn the plug on via the app? If yes, the plug is working
  • Does the physical button on the plug work? If yes, the plug itself is fine
  • Check the plug's settings in the app for any option mentioning lock, child safety, or parental controls
  • Is the plug working correctly in another account or on another person's phone?
