What is a streaming service and how does it work?
A streaming service delivers video continuously over the internet to your device as you watch. Unlike downloading, the video doesn't get saved on your device — it plays as it arrives. Streaming uses similar data to downloading, but requires an active internet connection.
Streaming services deliver video from large server networks spread around the world. When you press play, your device starts receiving compressed video bits from those servers. Your device buffers a little bit ahead (10 to 30 seconds) to smooth out speed variations in your internet. If your internet is fast, you get higher picture quality. If it's slower, the service automatically reduces quality to keep playing smoothly.
