TV remote volume buttons do not work
Nine times out of ten, the buttons are just stuck or the batteries are almost dead. Clean out the buttons and replace the batteries — that fixes the remote in most cases.
A TV remote with dead volume buttons is usually caused by weak batteries, stuck button mechanisms, or a loose connection between the remote and TV. We will start with the simplest fixes: new batteries and cleaning. If that does not work, we will check the TV settings to make sure volume control is not disabled.
- ✓Have two new AAA or AA batteries ready (check your remote for the battery type)
- ✓Have a cotton swab or dry cloth nearby for cleaning
- ✓Make sure your TV is turned on and responding to other remote buttons
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step, just tap, no typing needed.
Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Installing batteries backwards — the + end should face outward in most remotes. Check the diagram inside the battery compartment.
- Using old batteries that look fine — batteries lose power long before they stop working on small devices. Always use new ones.
- Not checking if the TV volume control is disabled in settings — some TVs lock volume to prevent changes.
Signs you need professional help
- If the volume buttons still do not work after new batteries and cleaning, give us a call — we can send you a replacement remote or check if the TV's infrared receiver is broken.
