Laptop won't display on TV through HDMI cable
The TV must be switched to the HDMI input where the cable is plugged in, and your laptop must be told to send video to the TV. Start by pressing the Input button on your TV remote and selecting the correct HDMI port number.
When you plug an HDMI cable into both a TV and laptop, two things must happen: the TV has to switch to the right HDMI input to display it, and the laptop has to turn on video output to the TV. If either isn't set correctly, the TV shows nothing. We'll walk through both fixes.
- ✓Have your TV remote available
- ✓Know which HDMI port on the TV your cable is plugged into (look at the back and count)
- ✓Make sure the HDMI cable is fully inserted on both the TV and laptop
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step, just tap, no typing needed.
Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Plugging the cable in but forgetting to switch the TV to the HDMI input — you must do both.
- Trying a different HDMI port but not switching the TV input to match that port number.
- Assuming the laptop is broken when the TV just isn't on the right input.
Signs you need professional help
- If you've switched to every HDMI input and the TV still shows 'No Signal', the HDMI port can be broken. If the cable works in a different TV but not yours, your TV's HDMI port needs replacing.
