Windows dark mode not applying or keeps flickering back to light
Dark mode is probably enabled but your settings app or Windows itself isn't fully applying it. Either a setting is overriding it, or you need to turn it off and back on to make it stick. We'll check a few settings and restart what needs restarting.
When dark mode won't stick on Windows, it's commonly because the setting is turned on but hasn't fully applied yet, or something is overriding it. Windows has separate dark mode controls for the system itself and for individual apps. We'll check both places, turn off any conflicting settings, and make sure dark mode actually takes effect.
- ✓Check that you're actually in dark mode in Settings. Go to Settings → Personalization → Colors and look at the App Mode section.
- ✓Check if your schedule is set to switch between light and dark mode automatically. If it is and the time just passed, that can be why it switched.
- ✓Try turning dark mode off and back on again to see if it sticks this time
- ✓Restart your computer and see if dark mode stays after a fresh boot

Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Setting Dark mode in one place but not checking the other. Windows has separate settings for system mode and app mode. Make sure both are set to Dark.
- Having a schedule turned on without realizing it. The schedule automatically switches your theme at certain times, which makes it look like dark mode is broken.
Signs you need professional help
