How do AI-powered fake customer support scams work?
Scammers create fake support websites or chatbots that look identical to real company support pages. When you 'chat with support,' you're talking to an AI that tricks you into downloading malware, sharing passwords, or paying for fake fixes.
You search for 'Apple support' and click what looks like the official support chat. You describe your problem, and the support 'agent' — actually an AI — asks you to install a remote access tool or 'security software' to fix it. You comply. Now the scammer has access to your computer or your passwords. Sometimes the AI chatbot just tricks you into paying for fake tech support or unnecessary software. The worst ones collect your personal information or banking details. Real company support never asks for remote access without verification, never asks you to download tools without explanation, and never charges for help by chat.
