iPhone dictation/voice-to-text not working
Dictation fails because the microphone icon is hidden or your iPhone doesn't have an internet connection. Dictation requires WiFi or mobile data to send your voice to Apple's servers. Check that internet is on and the microphone icon is visible by tapping the globe button next to the space bar on the keyboard.
Dictation converts your spoken words into text using Siri's speech recognition. It needs an internet connection to work because the audio is sent to Apple's servers for processing. When dictation fails, the problem is that the microphone button is disabled, the internet is off, or Dictation is not enabled in settings.
- ✓Check that WiFi or mobile data is connected - dictation cannot work without the internet
- ✓Check that the keyboard microphone button is visible - if it is missing, it is disabled in settings
- ✓Check that you are not in an app that does not allow dictation - some apps block voice input for security
- ✓Check that you have not recently updated iOS - sometimes dictation needs to be re-enabled after an update
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step, just tap, no typing needed.
