What is Face ID and how does it work

Face ID uses special hardware in your iPhone to create a detailed 3D map of your unique face and compares it every time you look at your phone. It's extremely secure because your face data never leaves your phone. Apple can't see it, and neither can anyone else.

Face ID is a biometric security system on modern iPhones. When you set it up, your iPhone's special camera creates a detailed mathematical map of your face's unique features: the distance between your eyes, your nose shape, cheekbone contours. This data never leaves your phone. It stays encrypted only on your iPhone. Every time you look at your phone, Face ID instantly compares your current face to that stored map.
