USB hub not detecting connected devices
A USB hub stops detecting devices when it's not getting enough power, the connection to the computer is loose, or the hub has a hardware problem. Re-seating the cable, checking power, and testing on a different computer port fixes most cases.
When a USB hub doesn't detect connected devices, the hub isn't properly powered, the upstream connection is loose, or the hub's internal circuitry has failed. We'll check the power supply, reseat the USB cable, and test the hub on different ports to isolate the problem.
- ✓Have the USB hub and the cable that connects it to your computer in front of you
- ✓Have at least one USB device ready to test (keyboard, mouse, phone charger, etc.)
- ✓Check if the hub needs its own power adapter and have that plugged in and ready

Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Not checking if the hub needs its own power adapter — assuming it should work on USB power alone when it actually needs external power
- Testing the hub without powering it on — the power indicator may be hard to see
- Not trying different computer ports — assuming the first port is fine when it might not be providing enough power
Signs you need professional help
- If the hub works fine on your computer but doesn't detect devices, or if it doesn't work on any computer port after trying everything above, the hub's internal circuitry may have failed. Give us a call and we'll help you determine if it needs replacing.
