Mouse scroll wheel jumping or skipping when you scroll

Your scroll wheel is clogged with dust or debris, or the mechanical sensor inside is worn out. Try cleaning around the scroll wheel with a dry cotton swab or compressed air first. That fixes it for most users. If cleaning doesn't work, the mouse likely needs replacing.

Your scroll wheel has a tiny sensor inside that counts how many times you turn it and tells your computer how far to scroll. When dust, dirt, or hair gets stuck in there, or when the sensor wears out, it sends wrong signals and your scrolling jumps around. We'll start by cleaning it, and if that doesn't work, we can test whether the mouse hardware is failing.
