Trackpad clicks aren't registering when you press down
Your trackpad is dirty or has debris under the button. Clean the surface with a damp cloth and restart your computer to reset the driver.
A trackpad click fails when dirt blocks the button underneath or when the driver (the software that runs the trackpad) gets stuck. Cleaning the surface fixes dirt-related clicks, and restarting the computer fixes driver problems. If both of those fail, the trackpad hardware itself is probably worn out.

Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Cleaning the trackpad with a wet cloth. Moisture can damage the electronics — use slightly damp instead.
- Only restarting without cleaning. If there's physical debris, restarting won't help.
- Trying to pry open the trackpad to clean underneath. This damages the hardware — just use a damp cloth on the surface.
