Trackpad gestures stopped working suddenly
Your trackpad gestures are turned off or need to be re-enabled in Settings. Go to your trackpad settings and turn the gestures back on. This takes 30 seconds.
Trackpad gestures are special motions like two-finger scrolling and pinching that do different things than regular clicks and drags. When they stop working, it's because they've been disabled in Settings or the trackpad software got confused. The quickest fix is to go into Settings and turn them back on.
- ✓Have an external mouse unplugged if you're using one — some laptops disable trackpad gestures when a mouse is connected
- ✓Know whether you're on Windows or Mac so you can find the right settings
- ✓Have a browser or document open with scrollable content ready to test after making changes
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step, just tap, no typing needed.
Skip, I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Looking for gesture settings in the wrong place. On Mac they're in Trackpad settings, not Accessibility.
- Not realizing that an external mouse being plugged in disables trackpad gestures. Unplugging the mouse fixes it immediately.
- Restarting the laptop instead of just re-enabling gestures in Settings. The setting change takes effect right away without a restart.
Signs you need professional help
- If you've disconnected the external mouse, enabled gestures in Settings, updated the driver, and restarted your computer but gestures still don't work, give us a call and we'll sort it out.
